The Lambeth Conference: A Send off for our Bishops

Saturday July 12^th, before the Lambeth Conference

Bishop Oswald Swartz to preach at our Cathedral

Ossie Swartz, Bishop of Kimberley and Kuruman, our link diocese in South Africa, will preach at our Diocesan Eucharist at Christ Church on Saturday July 12^th at 11.00am.

Bishop Ossie is one of sixteen bishops who will be staying in homes and parishes around our diocese for five days before they go to Canterbury on July 16^th for the beginning of the Lambeth Conference.  With our own bishops they will all be coming to the Eucharist at the cathedral, most of them with their wives, and in one case her husband.

The service is for all of us.  Come with your friends, including children.  Children from the Church of England School at North Hinksey will be singing.  There will be cold drinks after the service in the cathedral garden when we can meet our visitors.  Why not make a day of it and have a picnic in Christ Church Meadow afterwards, down by the river?

This is our send off, both for our own bishops and for our visitors; our chance to pray with them before they begin their eighteen day conference, ending on August 3^rd.

There will be other opportunities to meet our visitors, in the neighbourhoods where they are staying.   Look out for information locally.  There is one more open invitation for all of us.  The Mothers’ Union of the Diocese invites us to join them at their summer meeting on Monday evening, July 14^th.   This is at the St James Parish Centre in Gerrards Cross, and begins at 7.00pm.
