From the Hairy Bikers to the curry bikers! Two volunteers from a church in Botley have got on their bicycles to deliver hot food to those in need in Oxford.
Chef James Hart and Christine Martelloni have come up with a novel way to reach the homeless in the city with a hot meal and a hot drink. The pair cook up their vegetarian and vegan wares at St Frideswide church before boxing it up and hitting the streets.
James explained: “I wanted to do something direct with the homeless. We need to be getting to the people who really need it. We spotted that people living on the streets are often given cold food. We thought it would be nice for them to have a hot meal when the weather is cooler.
"The first time we went out these meals were grabbed with open arms, it was quite heartwarming to see. We gave out all the meals we had, along with a cup or tea or coffee."
James also runs a community café called Around Table at Wantage and regularly feeds more than 100 people with a hearty three-course menu.
