Meet the Diocese of Oxford's Head of Children and Youth Ministry

Simon Hill has joined the Diocese of Oxford as its first ever Head of Children and Youth Ministry.

Simon has served in children and youth ministry for almost 25 years, initially through parish roles in Bournemouth and his home town of Durham, and most recently at diocesan level in Worcester.

He described his new role as a “dream opportunity”.

“It is so exciting to be able to step into this job,” he said. “I’ve always had a strong sense of calling to youth and children’s ministry and this role really takes this to the next level for me.

“Oxford’s size as a diocese means that you can be strategic but not too far removed from the people and parishes.

“Roles like this are very rare and it is a privilege to be in post.

“I am really looking forward to being part of a team of passionate, talented and experienced individuals who are doing so much great work in this very important area.”

Simon said that his priorities in his new role would be working with area and deanery leaders on mission planning, expanding training for children and youth ministry, and strengthening the connection between churches, school and home in nurturing faith.

He added: “I will be doing everything I can to amplify the voices of children and young people so that they might lead and shape our ministry together.

“This has never been more important and it is the diocese’s great credit that it has chosen to invest in this post.”

A Newcastle United fan, Simon lives in Evesham and is married with two teenaged sons.
