The Reading episcopal area extends from west Berkshire along the M4 corridor to Windsor. It includes very rural areas and large centres of population, such as Reading and Bracknell, and, with a population of 800,000, is larger than many dioceses in the Church of England.
The deaneries of the Reading episcopal area are Bracknell, Bradfield, Maidenhead & Windsor, Newbury, Reading and Sonning.
The Rt Revd Mary Gregory was consecrated as the Bishop of Reading at a service in Canterbury Cathedral in February 2025.

The Rt Revd Mary Gregory was consecrated as Bishop of Reading in February 2025. She was previously the Canon for the Arts and Reconciliation at Coventry Cathedral, which has a global reputation for its work on reconciliation.

Paul Cowan

The Revd Paul Cowan served eight years as the Bishop's Chaplain, and before that spent 11 years as a parish priest in Newbury. He took up the role of Associate Archdeacon in September 2025.
