The Queen’s College, Oxford, welcomes applications for the post of Chaplain with the intention of filling the post by end-September 2025. The Chaplain has sole responsibility for all services in the College Chapel and provides pastoral care and welfare support as part of the College’s welfare team.
The post is remunerated on the Oxford Diocesan scale for incumbents.
About the post
The College is seeking to appoint a Chaplain for a five-year period. It is envisaged as an appointment for an ordained priest of the Church of England in the early stages of career development, but applications from more experienced candidates are also welcomed. Should the successful candidate be in the early stages of career development, the post will allow them to develop their ministerial skills. The College will reimburse the expense of one or two termly meetings with pastoral supervisors to support the post-holder in this role.
The post offers an exciting opportunity to support our community as Chaplain and to benefit from the intellectual life that is on offer in the College and in Oxford more generally. The Chaplain will organise, officiate at, and have oversight of all religious services performed in the College Chapel, and is expected to use only those forms of service authorised by the Church of England. The Queen’s College has an outstanding choral tradition, and the postholder will liaise closely with the Director of Music with regard to the provision of liturgical music in Chapel. The Chaplain also works as an integral member of the College’s welfare team.
The Chaplain reports to the Provost, and works closely with Fellows, staff and students across the College community.
Applications must arrive no later than midday on Friday 11 July 2025 with interviews taking place on Friday 18 July 2025.
The Queen’s College embraces diversity and equal opportunity. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
