About the Role
The Oxford Diocesan Board of Finance (ODBF) is seeking volunteer safeguarding trainers to join our passionate safeguarding team. In this role you will have the opportunity to use your training skills, and safeguarding knowledge, to make a meaningful difference in developing healthy and safe Christian communities. By facilitating safeguarding learning opportunities for church officers and parishes, you will support them in implementing good preventative safeguarding practices and being able to effectively recognise and respond to safeguarding situations.
As a volunteer safeguarding trainer, you could:
- Support the delivery of in-person Foundation sessions within your Deanery or across the Diocese
- Co-deliver Leadership or Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse sessions over Zoom
Key Responsibilities:
• Use the Diocese of Oxford training materials to deliver Core and Specialist safeguarding learning pathways, individually or as a co-facilitator.
• Travel to training locations across the Diocese of Oxford or deliver safeguarding learning over Zoom.
• Support participants in learning and developing the skills and knowledge to create a safer church.
• Maintain good communication with the Training Adviser in order to review safeguarding training delivered, discuss potential challenges or concerns and apply feedback.
• Participate in train-the-trainer sessions and volunteer training meetings, in order to keep safeguarding knowledge and trainer skills up to date.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for volunteers with the following knowledge, skills, experience and personal attributes:
• Is a qualified trainer or is experienced in facilitating training, either in-person or online
• Understands why safeguarding is important to the Church and is able to speak passionately about safeguarding
• High quality communication and presentation skills
• Confident at managing group dynamics
• Effective listening skills
• Strong organisation and timekeeping skills
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office, the internet and email
• Prepared to learn, develop and undertake training
