Volunteer Survivors Chaplain

As part of its commitment to learning and supporting victims and survivors of abuse in a church context, the Diocese of Oxford has set up a survivor group that meets 6 times per year. The Survivor Group has been supporting the Head of Safeguarding and Bishop’s Chaplain to develop a Chaplaincy for Survivors.
Based in the Safeguarding Team the ‘Chaplaincy for Survivors’ will offer support to those affected by abuse by providing pastoral and spiritual care. This initiative is based on concern expressed in the Survivor Group that there is limited and unsupervised spiritual support for survivors outside informal structures.
We are looking to recruit 3 Volunteer Survivors Chaplains who are either lay or ordained. It is essential for the candidates to be fully committed to the ethos and practice of the Christian faith.

The Survivor Group would act as the reference group which would oversee the work of the chaplains with co-ordinating responsibility with a Volunteer Survivors Lead Chaplain. The chaplains will be trained by an external provider and be professionally supervised.
Semi-structured interviews will take place on 30 April 2024. You will also have the opportunity to have an informal conversation with the Head of Safeguarding or a member of the survivor group.

For an informal chat or for any questions about the role, please contact Louise Whitehead, Head of Safeguarding, on 07391868478 or louise.whitehead@oxford.anglican.org Once you have submitted an application, a semi=structured conversation will take place at a mutually convenient time shortly thereafter.

How to apply:
