In March 2020, the Diocesan Synod declared a climate emergency creating an Environmental Task Group (ETG) to oversee an ambitious programme of change. As part of this work, the Diocese of Oxford has committed to supporting the A Rocha Eco Church scheme. To enable us to achieve this we are seeking to recruit volunteers with the right experience, gifts and skills to give their time and become deanery environmental leads.
The Diocese of Oxford covers three counties Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and due to its size is divided into four smaller ‘episcopal areas’ (Oxford, Dorchester, Buckingham and Reading) each overseen by their own area bishop. There are 29 deaneries or groups of parishes and ideally, we are looking for one or two people per deanery to support this vital work.
The volunteer deanery environmental leads will be part of the Discipleship and Social Justice team within the Department of Mission and Ministry and will support our environmental team. Further information about our environmental action programme can be found on our diocesan website.
Time commitment: we anticipate this volunteer role requires between two to four hours per week.
If you are interested in climate and environmental issues and have a chance to make a difference, help others, make new friends and gain work experience within the area then we would love to hear from you.
If you would like to have an informal chat about this role, please contact Hannah Mann, Environmental Programme Manager – hannah.mann@oxford.anglican.org
For more information please see the role description and person specification and to apply please submit an application form to recruitment@oxford.anglican.org.
Once you have submitted an application, a semi-structured conversation will take place at a mutually convenient time shortly thereafter.
These are volunteer roles for which expenses will be paid. The relevant training and full support will be provided.
