On 21 March at 6pm two of Oxford’s most influential leaders, Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, and The Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft, Bishop of Oxford, will come together for a rare public conversation on leading change. The debate at St Mary’s Church in Kidlington will explore how traditional institutions navigate profound contemporary challenges while honouring their historic legacies.
Bishop Steven said:
"I very much look forward to the conversation with the Vice Chancellor on the challenges and demands of leadership in our very different roles.”
The conversation will be chaired by Joanna Foster CBE, Programme Director and seasoned leader of national and Oxford-based organisations, including The Friends of St Mary’s Kidlington. The debate is organised by The Friends of St Mary’s Kidlington to raise funds for the conservation of the 800-year-old church building.
Professor Tracey, who studied at Gosford Hill School before embarking on her academic career, was appointed Vice-Chancellor in 2023. Bishop Steven Croft, who has served since 2016, has called the Diocese of Oxford to centre its life on becoming a more Christ like Church for the sake of God’s world, more contemplative, compassionate and courageous. He will step down from his role in July 2026.
The discussion will cover topics including freedom of speech, diversity and inclusion, medical developments, the evolving AI landscape, and the role of faith and spirituality in contemporary society.
Tickets for the event are £25 (discounts available) via fosmk.org.uk/leading-change. All proceeds will support the preservation of St Mary’s Kidlington, ensuring the 800-year-old church remains a vibrant part of the community for generations to come.
