Almost 300 sign up for English lessons

Almost 300 people from Ukraine, Hong Kong and across the globe have registered for online English language learning starting this month.

Launched in June 2021, the Revd Canon Liz Jackson, Associate Archdeacon of Berkshire, started the online offering for the large influx of people arriving in Reading from Hong Kong. The programme has gone from strength to strength, greatly appreciated by hundreds of attendees.

Now, with hundreds of Ukrainians having moved to the Diocese of Oxford over the past six months through the resettlement scheme with Citizens UK, numbers are booming. Volunteers are urgently needed - see how you can help.

Liz joined Vernon Harwood on BBC Radio Berkshire on Sunday 4 September to talk about the beginning of the new term of the Language Learning Links project providing English language support to Ukrainians and Hong Kongers in Berkshire.

How can I help?

Over 200 students are already signed up for online English language classes this September - from Hong Kong, Ukraine and across the world. Could you join the team of volunteers and provide much-needed online support to newly-arrived communities?

Register your interest as a volunteer

Two online training sessions are available to volunteers - no need to register, just turn up on the day.
