St Mary's Church, Freeland, held a brick church service where families used Lego to learn about the lost sheep, lost coin and lost son.
Around 60 people joined the service to learn about three of Luke's most well-known parables. There were several stations which everyone moved round – building Lego sheep, decorating round biscuits as ‘coins’, playing the Lego game ‘shave a sheep’, building a Lego party/celebration scene, watching a prodigal son stop motion Lego video and seeing a prodigal son Lego scene.
One highlight of the service was a huge Hogwarts Castle model, which comprises around 250,000 bricks, built by Josh Soanes. The model also featured in a Lego mini-figure hunt, with characters hiding in its many nooks and crannies. As well as being a member of St Mary's Church and a Lego expert, Josh is currently doing a year’s UCCF internship with Oxford students, having recently completed an Oxford theology degree.
After watching the Lego video of the lost sheep, the families heard from Josh about God's unconditional love for us. Children left with a party bag of chocolate coins, a Lego minifigure, shortbread and a flyer of future events.
