A new kind of church is coming to Woodley next month as St John’s the Evangelist launches Bubble Church, the first in our diocese!
The vicar, the Revd Mark Nam, is introducing the service to encourage more young families to come to church.
He said: “We do a lot midweek with toddler groups. It is wonderful service which is a really important part of the church but they do not really allow people to join the worshipping life of the church.
“Part of our mission as a church is to make disciples. Bubble Church is for young families but it is church. We want to connect with those who have shown an interest in what church is about.”
Bubble Church follows the pattern of a traditional church service with some elements people would recognise eg they begin by saying sorry (confession), they go on to offer thanks to God and children share what they are thankful for (intercessions), a Bible story is told using puppets (the Word) and they use the same form of words to say goodbye to each other (the blessing).
With a part-time children’s worker at St John's, the fact that Bubble Church provide all the resources needed for each service means they can focus on reaching out in other ways.
Mark added: “We have a lot of young families in the area. Our Christmas tree festival was well attended which showed us people are interested in the church. People want to have a connection with their church and this is a way to do that. It is a real blessing for us as a church.”
