A family supported by their local church during a time of tragedy have raised funds to thank them for their help.
The Wilson family, who are part of the traveller community, raised £20,000 in memory of Mat Mat, who died last year a day after his first birthday. The funds were split between three charities including St Sebastian’s in Wokingham.
Vicar Rickey Simpson-Gray said: “Being a Christian is about being outwardly person centred if you are going to be at the heart of the community we have to walk alongside those within the community including those who may describe themselves as being on the margins.
“It has been a pleasure to walk alongside Mat Mat and his community and also to exemplify being a Christ-like church. Our relationship came out of something courageous on both sides. Our love for them was our way of saying we support you and we are walking alongside you.”
