Rest, rejuvenate and replenish your body and soul – that’s the ethos behind the new pop-up children’s café at St Andrew’s, Clewer.
Ten families came together at the first session, to enjoy the comfort of warm toast and fruit, as well as the company of each other.
The Revd Rosie Webb explained how they came up with the idea: “We were thinking about how we could support and help our families a bit more. We came to the idea that just having a place for kids to come after school to relax and unwind at the end of the school week would help families who are struggling financially or emotionally.”
Children enjoyed games and crafts as well as some tasty treats, donated by the Community Fridge, while parents were able to chat to each other. Children were encouraged to leave their feedback so the café is truly a place for them.
Rosie continued: “The parents don’t have to worry about feeding their family for one night. We were also very grateful for the support of the Community Fridge which helped to cut down our costs with their donation. And we also reduce food waste through their help.”
The pop-up will now be run on an ad hoc basis, once a month on a Friday.
