by Liz RobertsI'M taking part in the @OurCofE campaign because social media (and it doesn't just have to be Twitter) is the next best thing to word of mouth in spreading news.
It's certainly faster! And what more encouraging news could there be than that the parish church is relevant to and engaging with the people it serves? In Harwell and Chilton, our beautiful, ancient buildings may not be at the centre of things geographically, but our vibrant congregations certainly try to live out the church vision - 'sharing life at the heart of the community, making followers of Jesus'. 140 character "vignettes"(from Rev Kate Bottley in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham) in the first week of the @OurCofE campaign covered college students being given money management help and walking alongside the parents of an infant who has died. My contributions from rural South Oxfordshire during the week commencing 17 March aimed to give an insight into not just what our churches were up to but the impact, too. Even if you don't normally do Twitter, following @OurCofE over the next year must be worth a try. I'm full of hope that this simple idea will inspire and encourage anyone trying to put love into practical action at local level.
