A vicar who found her faith while working in a pub, and delights in finding faith in what might look like unlikely places, is to become the next Lead Chaplain for Thames Valley Police.
The Revd Nicky Skipworth, who will take up her post in the new year, says she is passionate about chaplaincy and helping workers to overcome challenges in their workplace, to help their organisations become even better. This will be the second time Nicky has worked in the diocese having previously served as Community Missioner for All Saints Church in High Wycombe, where her role partly involved working with the police. She has also spent time in west Wales as the rector of Pembroke Dock benefice.
Nicky said: “Chaplaincy is about treating a particular working environment as your parish, it’s about supporting people behind the doors of their workplace. People bring their whole selves to work, including the challenges they face. I try to model Jesus’ way of being with people, in thick and thin being called by the people to serve them, to listen, to care and to advocate.
“Thames Valley is a wonderful constabulary, second only in size to the Metropolitan Police. There is an incredible diversity there and I am really looking forward to getting stuck in and making a difference, particularly with members of staff whose work is normally hidden.”
Nicky comes to Thames Valley Police from her current post in Nottinghamshire where she is the vicar of Harworth and Bircotes, Styrrup and Hesley, based at All Saints Church.
