Young people from across Wycombe gathered for a weekend of fun and fellowship at the second annual Wycombe Youth Weekender.
This year, building on last year’s success, more than 200 youngsters took part on site at Latimer Hope in Chesham. The young people took part in worship and workshop sessions which covered topics like mental wellbeing, asking big questions and sin.
The traditional Friday night BBQ was manned in part by Bishop Dave who was keen to support the event. He said: “At Easter we celebrate that Jesus is alive! For evidence of this you need look no further than this vibrant weekend with well over 200 teenagers encountering the life Jesus brings in a fun, safe and inspiring festival of faith.
“The youth leaders who have planned and delivered this outstanding event are part of a new generation of leaders who will reimagine and revitalise the church. Let’s get behind them and pray for all the young people they are serving.”
Activity time included a very popular slip and slide, craft sessions with spray paints and team games.
The Revd James Dwyer, Area Dean for Wycombe, added: "Being at the United youth weekend is a powerful reminder of what the local church can do. It’s really encouraging to see so many teenagers from across the Wycombe area gathered to worship, learn about Jesus, and grow deeper in their walk with him. I hope this is just the beginning of what God is doing in the lives of our young people.”
The ecumenical weekend welcomes young people from across 11 churches in the Wycombe area, aged 11 and above and is led by Mark Humphries who is the kids and youth pastor at St Peter’s in Loudwater.
The weekend was also supported by a Development Fund grant for play equipment which will also be loaned to parishes to use throughout the year.
