….. zip wiring teddies!
Last Sunday, All Saints in Faringdon was host to almost 70 daredevil teddies who took on the annual zip wire, as part of the town's FollyFest celebrations. Children could design a special superhero cape for their teddy to wear for their zip wire adventure and each super teddy received a special certificate commemorating their bravery. The teddies zip wired from the top of the organ to the pulpit.
Children and families leader at the church Josey Speller explained: “The teddy bear zip wire is a great way to engage with families and invite them into the church.
“Jesus tells us to live life to the full and we want to show the wider community that church is a fun place! So many people came to the church who would not normally visit. Some said they had lived in the village for many years but not come in before.”
As well as the zip wire, there was the chance to try out bell ringing and tours of the church by a local historian. The event was also an opportunity to share what’s coming up, including a Messy Summer event and Lego Church.
Josey added: “We wanted to get involved in FollyFest, the annual music festival in the town, and encourage more people to visit the church. This was a great way to get to know the families in Faringdon and raise awareness of the church and the things we do.”
The children and families leader post is funded in part by a Development Fund grant.
