The Diocese of Oxford is delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Gavin Knight as Archdeacon of Buckingham, which has come about due to the upcoming retirement of The Venerable Guy Elsmore.
Gavin has been Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Summertown, Oxford, for almost 14 years, was previously a chaplain to Monmouth School, and prior to that Priest in Charge at St Andrews’s, Fulham Fields. He is also currently Area Dean for Oxford. He studied at Ripon College Cuddesdon and was ordained in 1999 in the Diocese of Birmingham. He will take up his post in November and will be based in the Area Office at Stone.
Bishop Dave Bull, Bishop of Buckingham said: “I am really excited that God has called Gavin to join us as our new Archdeacon for Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Slough. Through Gavin’s work in Oxford, God has grown a vibrant and thriving church to serve Summertown, including making the Ukrainian community so welcome and an integrated part of the parish. I look forward to seeing the wider church in Bucks thrive as Gavin joins the team here. We very much look forward to welcoming him in the autumn. Gavin, his wife Jo, and his three sons will be in my prayers as he prepares for this role.
Gavin said: “After serving the parish of Summertown and Deanery of Oxford, I am excited to explore the ever changing sights and sounds of the Buckingham Archdeaconry. I am committed to help build the emerging team here under Bishop Dave's oversight and create connections with rural and urban parishes, with lay and ordained leaders. This is an exciting time in the life of the Buckingham Area to journey together and knock at the door of the Kingdom.”
Arrangements for Gavin’s licensing will be shared in due course.
