His Honour Judge David Hodge QC has been appointed the new Chancellor of the Diocese of Oxford, in place of the Reverend and Worshipful Alexander McGregor, following his appointment as Head of the Legal Office of the Church of England. David has been Deputy Chancellor for the Diocese of Blackburn since 2016.
He was called to the Bar by Inner Temple in 1979 and admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1980.
He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1997 and was elected a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 2000. David is a Specialist Civil Circuit Judge sitting principally in Manchester and in Liverpool.
He sits mainly hearing cases in the Chancery Lists in the Business and Property Courts but he also sits in the Queen's Bench Division, the Circuit Commercial Court, the Technology and Construction Court and the Court of Protection.
David is also a nominated judge of the Lands Chamber of the Upper Tribunal.
David has been a member of the Legal Advisory Commission of the Church of England since 2016.
He is also Chairman of the Civil Sub-Committee of the Council of HM Circuit Judges. David was formally sworn in on Wednesday 22 May 2019.
He will take up membership of Diocesan Synod on 15 June.
There will also be a formal welcome for him when his Letters Patent will be delivered in a service of Evensong at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday 15 June at 6pm.
