Revd Paul Cowan The Bishop of Oxford has appointed a new Chaplain.
He is the Revd Paul Cowan, currently Vicar of St George and St John in Newbury. Paul trained for ministry at Cuddesdon and was ordained in 2002.
Before taking up his current post, he served his curacy at All Saints, Wokingham and then spent a year seconded to the Cathedral in Kimberley, South Africa.
Before ordination Paul worked as a psychodynamic counsellor in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre for homeless men.
He is married with two teenage sons.
His interests include walking, playing football and supporting Watford FC, reading, tennis, surfing, photography, bird watching, gardening… and slouching in front of the telly with a real ale. Paul said: 'I'm really looking forward to taking up this post, supporting Bishop Steven in his ministry and leadership of the Diocese and becoming part of the life of Church House.
My appointment as Chaplain has come about quite suddenly and unexpectedly.
It's all been a bit of a whirlwind.
The next few months will give some time to take stock, to say some difficult goodbyes after ten happy years in Wash Common, Newbury and to find a new home and begin this new phase of life; in amongst all that there is of course also Christmas!'Bishop Steven said: 'I'm delighted that Paul is to join my team as Bishop's Chaplain.
He will bring many gifts to the role and I look forward to working with him in the coming years. 'Paul is expected to take up his new post on 1 February 2017.
He follows the Revd Graham Sykes, who is leaving at the end of 2016.
