The Revd Canon Terrie Robinson announced as the new Children's Society Ambassador for the Diocese of Oxford
10 March 2021This month sees the diocese welcome their new Children's Society ambassador, the Revd Canon Terrie Robinson, who takes up the voluntary role with immediate effect.
Terrie is well known to many in the diocese and in particular at St Luke's Church, Maidenhead , where she is an associate priest. Terrie has had a long association with the Church, having worked for the Anglican Communion Office for 18 years, serving as Director for Women in Church and Society for the last four years of her time there.
This role saw her working across the Communion for justice and equality between women, men, girls and boys in all spheres of life, and in particular raising awareness of how just relationships are needed to end and prevent gender-based violence. Her time at the Anglican Communion Office saw her working closely with grass roots organisations, theologians, leaders across the worldwide Anglican Communion, politicians and thought leaders.
Speaking about her appointment, Terrie says,
"I have long been a supporter of The Children's Society, having undertaken fundraising and awareness-raising projects in the past, so I am delighted to take up this role. I am really looking forward to working with churches and groups across the diocese to raise the charity's profile and celebrate their transformative work among children, young people and families. "As we navigate the end of lockdown and the loosening of restrictions, the work that The Children's Society does will become more vital than ever before. Through their tireless efforts, they will help to ensure that those young people who, through no fault of their own, may have fallen through the gaps in society, or who are especially vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, will receive the help and support that they need to thrive. "I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of people across the diocese who continue to support The Children's Society in its work, from holding Christingle services to signing petitions and enabling the voices and concerns of children and young people to be heard. The Children's Society is national charity working to transform the hopes and happiness of young people facing abuse, exploitation and neglect.Local support is the beating heart of The Children's Society, and they couldn't continue their life-changing work without it.
I would love to hear from churches or other groups, now or at any time of the year, who would like me to come along to talk about The Children's Society and its exceptional work.
Please do get in touch.
They support them through their most serious life challenges and campaign tirelessly for the big social changes that will improve the lives of those who need hope most.
They have been doing this for 140 years and won't stop until they have helped build a society where hope is alive in every child. To support them in their mission , you can campaign, donate, raise money, do a charity challenge or volunteer. Rachel Brockie, Relationship Manager, Community and Groups at The Children's Society concludes,"I am absolutely thrilled that Terrie has decided to volunteer some of her time to the work of The Children's Society.
Terrie brings such a wealth of knowledge and experience with her and will be an asset to the charity as we continue to reach out across the Diocese of Oxford with resources, thanks, updates, and discussions on collaboration. "The need for The Children's Society is greater than ever as a result of the pandemic.
The Children's Society really listen to the concerns, needs and challenges faced by children and young people, and Terrie will help to bring this learning to parishes.
I am very much looking forward to working with her. "If you would like to know how you can support The Children's Society please get in touch with Rachel or Terrie .
