IT was an exciting morning for children from Standlake CE Primary School children when they got to take part in a charity triathlon.
The youngsters got the chance to paddle canoes around West Oxfordshire Sailing Lake, before running as many laps of a marked course as they could in 15 minutes, and then cycling or scooting as many laps as the could in 15 minutes. The sun shone as teachers acted as marshals and parents enjoyed spectating and cheering their children on.
The sponsored triathlon gave youngsters the chance to raise funds for Shelter Box - a charity that provides disaster relief to families around the world. Andrew Denham, the headteacher, said: "We also wanted to provide the children with an opportunity to challenge themselves; to develop their resilience and stamina at undertaking a physical activity for a prolonged period; to give them an opportunity to take part in a water based activity (many for the first time); to develop a sense of team spirit; to build self-esteem and confidence through a sense of achievement and to enhance the community spirit in the school.
