THE Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Revd Steven Croft, joined faith leaders for a vigil for the victims of the weekend's terror attacks in London last night.
Bishop Steven was among the religious leaders interviewed by BBC reporters as people of all faiths and none gathered with signs at the foot of Carfax Tower in Oxford. Bishop Steven told BBC South Today: "I think it's vital for the faiths to come together at these times, and for leaders of all faiths to say this is not to be done in God's name, and not to be done in our name, to separate the Islamic extremism which is claiming responsibility for these terrorist acts from the religion of Islam and the vast majority of Muslims and to simply declare that this is not something which is associated with religion at all, with true religion. The following statement was issued by the leaders of Oxford's four Mosques following the London attack of 3 rd June 2017:
"We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the cowardly and barbaric attack on the London Bridge and the nearby Borough Market on fellow citizens going about their lives, enjoying an evening out. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, the survivors, their families and friends, and our emergency services, at this most difficult time. "This attack follows the recent despicable attacks in Minya province, Kabul, Baghdad and of course, Manchester.;The four Mosques issuing this statement are the Central Oxford Mosque, Madina Mosque, Bath Street Mosque and Bangladeshi Mosque. As Muslims, it's heartbreaking to see the carnage and brutality these terrorists have unleashed, upon all humanity. "We stand united in our values of love, respect and mutual understanding for one another, as opposed to the hatred, division and violence of the terrorists.
We will not be cowed or defeated by the evil ideology espoused by these terrorists. "
