Pints in the pews at pop-up pub

Pints will be served in the pews at St Luke’s church in Leckhampstead this weekend as the pop-up pub returns to the village.

The pub has been running every six weeks in the church as an opportunity to bring the community together and fundraise for the church. Each evening there is a different theme, like live music or BBQ, and next Friday will be the first rockaoke evening.

Vicar the Revd Mike Griffiths will be part of a band which has learned 50 songs for drinkers to sing along to. Customers can buy tokens to vote and the singer with the most votes at the end of the night wins a prize.

Mike, who is rector of the West Downland benefice, said: “There is no community shop or pub in the village and that is the same for the other villages in the benefice. Finding those spaces where the community can come together is quite important. One of the joys of the pop-up pub is it has brought people into church who have never been before, which is really cool.”

Rockaoke at the pop-up pub will be on 4 July at Leckhampstead.
