The Revd Fung Ming Lau has been welcomed to Trinity Earley as an Associate Minister with oversight of the Hong Kong Ministry at the church.
Bishop Mary was joined by almost 500 people including the Mayor of Earley, at a special service to license Fung in her ministry.
The Associate Minister role has been supported by the diocese as part of our Hong Kong Resourcing hub a Strategic Development Fund funded project. This follows the establishment of the minister which was originally led by Siew Yin Chan who sadly died of cancer in 2023.
The Revd Jon Salmon said: “This has been an exciting and pioneering journey for all concerned with a clear vision to seek God’s plan, in His timing, for one integrated church which would include planting out new Hong Kong congregations into other local contexts.
“Trinity finds itself exploring what it means to be a much larger church with not only Church of England, Methodist and URC denominational roots but numerous denominations from Hong Kong and a much richer cultural mix than it had ever imagined.”
The service was also attended by the Revd Liz Jackson, Berkshire’s Associate Archdeacon, who has played a huge part in supporting this ministry, on her last official day in the diocese before heading to become Archdeacon of Walsall. She was thanked by the Hong Kongers for the online English language lessons she taught many of them.
It was special too to have local church leaders present and the Methodist and URC churches were involved in the service.
