'Real' windows decorated for Advent trail

Real Advent windows have been opening in Amersham on a trail around the town.

Each window depicts a Christmas scene like Angel Gabriel visiting Mary or a crib scene, there are snowmen and other festive favourites too. The windows were organised by the social events team at St Mary’s Church in the town.

Volunteers from the congregation and more widely signed up to decorate windows at the front of their homes with creative ideas like a stained-glass window created out of coloured tissue paper. Windows are then photographed and shared on the church’s Facebook page.

The Revd Jonny Rapson, vicar at St Mary’s, said: “The advent windows have been a great way to create that excitement and interaction with the community. It has also been a creative way to reiterate the importance of the Christmas season to everyone, to highlight that the church is part of the community, is not just one building, and that the church is there for people.”

A guided walking trial of the windows will be held on 19 December, when all windows can be seen even though there are four more to open in the lead up to Christmas Day.
