We were deeply shocked and saddened by the sexual assaults carried out in the 1970s by the Revd Grahame Humphries.
He has received an eight month prison sentence, suspended for two years, a 24- month Supervision Order and he will appear on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years. Any case of this kind is a matter of regret for the Church.
We expect the highest conduct of our clergy and will not tolerate sexual assaults.
We are well aware of the long term trauma experienced by victims and we are holding everyone involved in this sad case in our prayers. As soon as the allegations came to light we removed the Revd Humphries' permission to work as a priest in the Diocese of Oxford and we co-operated fully with the police and the courts.
