A SUPERMARINE Spitfire will be gearing up for a fly-past to celebrate the RAF's Centenary at this year's Caversham church fete.
The iconic aircraft will grace the Berkshire skies above the fete, in Caversham Court Gardens, on Saturday 14 July, courtesy of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The fete combines entertainment, refreshments, stalls and sideshows on the banks of the River Thames.
Organised by the Parish of Caversham Thameside and Mapledurham (St Peter's and St John's Churches, in Caversham, and St Margaret's Church, Mapledurham), the event is sponsored by funeral directors AB Walker and Walmsley Estate Agents. Entertainment includes a selection of music from the Tadley Band, a traditional brass band that traces its history back 140 years; dancing from the Joanna Wright School of Dance; entertainer Fred in the Shed, especially but not exclusively for younger fete-goers; and, of course, children's races and a kids' zone. There will be sideshows from hoopla and hook-a-duck to tombolas offering bottles or chocolate as prizes.
Stalls will be selling everything from cakes, books, plants and bric-a-brac, to crafts, jams and preserves.
There will be afternoon tea, ice cream and Pimms available.
The afternoon will be rounded off by the grand draw, with prizes including a £150 John Lewis voucher, a hand-made quilt, meals out and a Tivoli portable DAB/FM digital radio with Bluetooth.
Caversham Church Fete takes place at 1pm Saturday, 14 July 2018 in Caversham Court Gardens (RG4 7AD). The fly-past is set to take place at 2pm.
