Over 50 chaplains from across the dicoese gathered for a Chaplains’ Conference in the research centre at Christ Church, in May.
The day was hosted by Archdeacon Jonathan with the theme of ‘The Gift of Chaplaincy - opportunity and challenges within the ecology of the church.
Attendees heard from Mike Haslam, Chaplaincy Adviser, about chaplaincy from the national church level and what the hopes for chaplaincy support might be.
The Revd Clare Hayns, Chaplain at Christ Church Oxford, spoke about the opportunities and challenges for chaplains at the ground level and Bishop Steven spoke about the importance of chaplaincy especially in current times.
Over 11 areas of chaplaincy were represented at the conference, from lay and ordained, paid and volunteer, covering ministry in sectors as diverse as arts and retail, police, prison, hospitals and Armed Forces.
