A group from our link diocese in Växjö, Sweden, visited us in May to find out about the Church of England and Oxford Diocese in particular. The visitors are all beginning careers in the Church of Sweden.
In the course of a full programme they experienced the breadth of the Church of England with visits to St Ebbe’s, St Barnabas, St Stephen's House and two country parishes outside Oxford, as well as Christ Church. Professor Diarmaid MacCulloch gave a well-received presentation on the history of the Church of England. Our social justice advisor Hannah Ling spoke on Oxford diocese's social engagement and discipleship enabler James Wood on its work with young people. Bishop Olivia talked about the link with Växjö and her experience as a female bishop. Group members were very pleased with their trip (if rather puzzled by the CofE’s dealings with matters of gender and sexuality).
