A former allotment site in Waddesdon will become the site for 75 homes, including 30% of affordable housing. The site, originally owned by the Diocese of Oxford which secured the planning permission, will be developed by Greencore Homes a ‘better than net zero’ house builder.
After extensive consultations and discussions with Buckinghamshire County Council the diocese secured planning permission for 75 houses of which 30% will be affordable housing including, importantly, a significant allocation of social rented homes.
The Rt Revd Steven Croft, Bishop of Oxford, said: “As a diocese, we are committed to creating opportunities for all for good quality, sustainable, and affordable housing. Caring for God’s creation is at the heart of our mission, so as part of the selection process it was a priority that we chose a developer which shared these aims for the Waddesdon site. We are particularly pleased that Greencore, a diocese-based award-winning company will now be bringing forward a ‘better than net zero’ development that we and the local community can be proud of.”
Greencore was chosen by the Diocese of Oxford, after a full tendering process,v in part due to its commitment to delivering better than net zero homes and a climate positive development. The materials used in its unique, hemp-filled, timber panels, which are assembled off site, guarantees the structure of each home achieves better than zero embodied carbon. Developments are designed to achieve ultra-low embodied carbon overall and a net zero energy balance in occupation.
The area earmarked for development is close to the Waddesdon Manor landmark, and has excellent transport links to the local town.
Bidwells, which recently became B-Corp accredited, advised the Diocese of Oxford along with Freeths and Sidleys. DAC Beachcroft advised Greencore Homes.
Jon Di-Stefano, CEO of Greencore Homes said: “Securing this site in Waddesdon marks another important milestone in our mission to deliver 10,000 Better Than Net Zero homes by 2035. Our landscape-led approach ensures that each development not only meets the highest standards of energy efficiency but also enhances the character of the local area. We’re excited to bring forward 75 new homes here and to continue building communities in the Diocese of Oxford.”
