Newbury church to become Net Zero Carbon Champion

A moving evensong service took place at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday when the Revd David Meakin was installed as an Honorary Canon. The honour is in recognition of 35 years’ humble service in the Diocese of Oxford and the wider Church of England.

The bicentenary of John Henry Newman’s first sermon was celebrated on 23 June in the tiny Oxfordshire village of Over Worton where he had preached exactly 200 years before, and in the very same church. 


Nineteen deacons ordained priest

Nineteen deacons were ordained priests at four services across the diocese this weekend. Services were held at Dorchester Abbey, St Mary’s Amersham, St Giles Church Oxford and Reading Minster.

Inter-faith leaders share experiences of Gaza conflict

Around 50 civic, community, and faith leaders met on Sunday 9 June, hosted by Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. The aim was to build relationships and share local insights and experiences to mitigate the impact of the Israel-Palestine conflict on the diverse communities of the Thames Valley region.

Pedal pilgrimage raises funds for church and school

Two intrepid (and fit!) members of the diocese joined the bi-annual fundraising cycle from Westminster to Islip on Sunday. Bishop Gavin and our Finance Director John Orridge hit the saddle to tackle the Islip Big Bike and raise funds for St Nicholas church, Islip, and local school, Dr South’s CofE Primary.


'God kept tugging at my sleeve' - Joan's story
